Junior Development Squad

The Cunningham District wishes to form a Junior Squad for the development and progression of junior bowls within our district. The aim is to provide a structured system for training and advancement for youth, in order to plan for the long term future of bowls within our clubs.

Junior development squads are the first step at producing and developing younger players for the sport of Lawn Bowls. The squads are established to expose and encourage youth participation at all levels of ability. There are many non-playing but potential junior players who are often reserved by the generation imbalances they see in club membership. The establishment of a junior development squad attempts to break down this and other perceived barriers.

Clubs are currently offering coaching by accredited coaches. Children have varying levels of concentration, ability and stamina and all require coaching aimed at their level. At this stage in their life participation in sport is generally not about winning but having enjoyment in what they are doing now. Both male and female coaches are required for equal development opportunities for boys and girls.

We share Bowls Queensland passion for junior bowls and the development of our clubs and the game.

Current and potential Under 18's need to be:

• encouraged as bowlers

• provided with regular quality, age-appropriate coaching and training opportunities

• given the opportunity to socialize, train and play with and against their peers

We would like your club to be a supporter of Junior Bowls within our district by providing the club's facilities for a training day and sausage sizzle for our visiting Development officers, children and parents.

Our vision is to increase junior membership in all clubs in the district so we would like to increase numbers on the day by working with you and contacting schools in your area to promote an open day where children can come and try the sport of lawn bowls.

We are also in need of coaches with modern approach to the sport of lawn bowls to assist in running our programs at the various clubs, so if you know of anybody who would be interested could you please get them to get in touch with the Junior Development Officers.

It is proposed that a donation of $50.00 to the Junior Development Squad by all clubs be considered. By participating in the Junior Bowls Development Program, we are investing in the future of our clubs and the sport of lawn bowls.

If your club is interested in hosting a training day could you please contact one of the people listed below so we can set up a time and date.
