Sept 4: Ladies Saturday Shield: (Report from Marie Lipp, District Match Committee) The Ladies Saturday Shield was contested for the first time this year and the competition was highly spoken of by the players . They have enjoyed it so much that requests have been made for 2012 for another competition. Ladies from various clubs paired off to play a three bowl pairs game. It was a learning experience for most of the ladies as many of them have never played in any form of competition before. They all are to be congratulated and the ladies match committee hope that they continue to enjoy their bowls.

As Ladies Match Chair Person, I would like to specially thank the match committee ladies of Dulcie Frost for doing the score board for the final and Wendy Ferguson for her presence at the inaugural Saturday Ladies Competition and the clubs who conducted the games on a Saturday at their various venues.

The final was played between a combined pair from Jindalee and Darra/Cementco and a combined pair from North Ipswich and Ipswich United Services. Both teams played some great bowls but the experience of Helen Wood-Bradley edged her and her partner, Val Joffille, to victory. Pam Clarke and Susan Connellan should feel proud of their efforts. They pegged back towards the end to go down 27-18.
Owen Smith , the CDBA President, presented the shield and a badge to the winners and a small pennant flag to the runners-up.
Congratulations to the winners and to the whole group of spectators for their enthusiasm and the spirit they showed in applauding every good bowl. See Photo Page
